Congresswoman Esty Statement on GOP Health Care Bill Being Pulled
Moments ago, the GOP health care bill was pulled from the House floor because it didn’t have the votes to pass. In our district alone, more than 2,000 Americans sent emails and made phone calls to me to share their concerns about what this reckless and destructive proposal would mean for your families. Today, your voices were heard.
The Affordable Care Act has problems that we need to work on together to fix. But the bill GOP leaders put forward would solve none of these problems. Instead of lowering costs or improving the quality of care, this bill would force millions of Americans to pay more money for worse coverage.
We won’t fix the problems in our health care system with just one party negotiating against itself. I’m committed to working in a bipartisan way on reforms that will improve access to quality health care, lower premiums, reduce out-of-pocket expenses, and bring down drug costs.
I’d love to hear from you about what steps you think we should take to improve the health care system in the United States. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me to share your thoughts, ask questions, or ask for help. Sincerely,
Elizabeth Esty
Member of Congress
