El Paso, TX — A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Colorado and is being extradited to El Paso County to face charges in the March shooting death of another man in Fabens, authorities announced.
Arrest Made by U.S. Marshals Task Force
On Monday, Aug. 11, Angel Lozano, 23, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Colorado Violent Offender Task Force and booked into the Weld County Jail in Greeley, Colorado, according to KTSM.
He will be extradited to Texas to face charges in the death of 26-year-old Aaron Villa, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
“This arrest is the result of tireless investigative work and the strong partnerships we maintain with our state and federal law enforcement counterparts,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “My deepest condolences go out to the family of Mr. Villa. We remain committed to ensuring that those who commit acts of violence in our community are held accountable.”
Incident Details From March Shooting
In the early morning hours of March 20, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 100 block of Mezcla Street in Fabens for reports of shots fired and a possible aggravated assault.
When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as Villa, was rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.
Investigation Led to Lozano
The Major Crimes Unit of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, working alongside the Texas Rangers, identified Lozano as the primary suspect in the case.

- Coordination with federal agencies for tracking the suspect
- Cross-state arrest operation involving Colorado authorities
Authorities have not released additional details about the motive or whether Lozano and Villa knew each other.
Extradition Process Underway
Lozano remains in custody in Colorado while awaiting extradition proceedings. Once returned to Texas, he will face formal charges in connection with Villa’s death.
