Clouds, Wind, and Chilly Weather Ahead for Metro Detroit; Rain Expected by Daybreak

Detroit, Michigan — Metro Detroit residents can expect increasing clouds and chilly temperatures midweek as another fall system moves in, bringing rain showers, gusty winds, and a noticeable drop in temperature through Thursday.

Clouds Build Overnight, Light Rain Possible by Morning

Forecasters say cloud cover will thicken after midnight, with a slight chance of light rain arriving toward daybreak. Overnight lows will dip to around 43°F, accompanied by a northeast breeze near 10 mph.

The early morning commute on Thursday could see spotty showers, especially across southern and central Metro Detroit.

Thursday: Rainy, Raw, and Windy

Thursday will bring periods of rain developing through the morning and becoming more widespread by afternoon. High temperatures will struggle to reach 50°F, and north winds of 15–25 mph will gust up to 30 mph, making it feel even colder.

Meteorologists expect rainfall totals of up to a quarter inch, with showers tapering off by early evening. The day will feel raw and damp, a true taste of late autumn in the region.

Thursday Night: Chilly and Mostly Cloudy

As rain showers end early in the evening, skies will remain mostly cloudy overnight. Lows will drop to around 37°F, with northwest winds easing to 10–15 mph.

By Friday morning, Metro Detroit will wake to cool, crisp air under partial sunshine.

Friday and Halloween Weekend Forecast

Friday will be partly sunny and breezy, with afternoon highs near 54°F. However, temperatures will drop quickly after sunset, just in time for Halloween evening activities.

Trick-or-treaters can expect mostly dry conditions with temperatures in the upper 40s, a light west-northwest breeze, and no significant rain threat—ideal conditions for a crisp fall night outdoors.

The weekend will stay cool but mainly dry:

  • Saturday: Partly sunny with highs near 51°F.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, lows around 34°F.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny early, turning cloudy later with a chance of rain by evening. Highs in the low 50s.

Early Next Week: Gradual Warming

Monday will bring mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain, with highs near 56°F.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, conditions improve with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 50s, offering a milder and more comfortable start to November.

Tropical Update: Hurricane Melissa

At 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Hurricane Melissa was tracking northeast over the Bahamas at 15 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph, classifying it as a Category 2 hurricane.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm will bring damaging winds, flooding rains, and a dangerous storm surge across the Bahamas through Wednesday night, before spreading into eastern Cuba by Thursday.

There are no direct impacts expected for the continental United States, though indirect swells and marine hazards are likely to affect the Florida Straits and parts of the southeast Atlantic coast over the next few days.
