Clinton Township Assault Leads to Seven-Vehicle Crash on Hall Road, Woman Arrested

Clinton Township, Michigan — A Thursday evening domestic disturbance in a residential apartment complex escalated into a dangerous multi-vehicle crash on one of Clinton Township’s busiest roadways, ending with a woman in police custody and multiple people shaken by the chain of events, authorities said.

According to township police, officers were dispatched at about 7:40 p.m. to a home in the 17000 block of Kingsbrooke Circle at the Garfield Commons Apartment Complex, near Garfield Road and 18 Mile Road, after receiving reports of a domestic assault.

When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old man suffering from lacerations and wounds to his neck and upper torso. He was transported to a hospital and is listed in stable condition, police confirmed.

Domestic disturbance reported at apartment complex

Investigators say a 24-year-old woman allegedly assaulted the man with a weapon before fleeing the scene. Witnesses and preliminary findings indicate the suspect left the apartment complex driving a black Chevrolet Trax SUV shortly before police arrived.

Officers immediately began gathering information related to the alleged assault, including details about the suspect’s vehicle and direction of travel. At the same time, dispatchers began receiving a surge of emergency calls from drivers several miles away.

Multi-vehicle crash unfolds on Hall Road

Just minutes after officers responded to the domestic disturbance, emergency dispatch received reports of a multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound lanes of Hall Road, west of Romeo Plank Road, police said.

Upon arrival at the crash scene, officers discovered a chaotic situation involving seven vehicles. Investigators determined that a black Chevrolet Trax, traveling eastbound, had collided with multiple vehicles in a chain reaction. The SUV ultimately came to rest on top of another vehicle, underscoring the severity of the crash.

Police later confirmed that the driver of the Chevrolet Trax was the same woman suspected in the earlier domestic assault at the apartment complex.

Suspect hospitalized, then taken into custody

The woman sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment. After being medically evaluated, she was released into police custody, officials said.

She is currently being held pending arraignment, though specific charges have not yet been formally announced. Authorities indicated that additional charges related to both the assault and the traffic crash are expected.

Police have not released the woman’s name, citing the ongoing investigation and pending court proceedings.

“This was a fast-moving situation that began as a domestic call and quickly turned into a serious public safety incident,” officials said during a preliminary briefing.

Other drivers involved, extent of injuries unclear

While no fatalities have been reported, several vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash. Authorities have not yet released details on whether other drivers or passengers were injured, though multiple people were evaluated at the scene.

Traffic along Hall Road was temporarily disrupted as police and emergency crews worked to clear debris, investigate the crash, and assist those involved. The roadway has since reopened.

Incident part of broader domestic violence trend

Thursday’s incident is the latest in a series of domestic violence-related cases reported across Metro Detroit in recent months.

Earlier this month, a domestic violence charge against a Hamtramck police officer who lives in Warren was dismissed after the alleged victim declined to cooperate with prosecutors. In another case late last month, a Brownstown Township man suspected in a domestic violence incident was shot by police after holding officers at bay during a confrontation.

In October, a Canton Township man accused of stabbing his mother and siblings was arrested and charged. Court records show a judge ordered a mental competency evaluation, with the defendant’s next court hearing scheduled for March 6.

Domestic violence cases rising across Southeast Michigan

Statistics from the Michigan State Police show that the number of domestic violence victims has increased across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties, reflecting a broader statewide trend. Data from the Council on Criminal Justice indicates that domestic violence rates in a sample of major U.S. cities — excluding Detroit — rose by 3% in 2023.

Law enforcement officials continue to urge residents to report domestic violence concerns early, emphasizing that situations can escalate rapidly and place both victims and the public at risk.

Authorities say the investigation into Thursday’s assault and crash remains active, and additional information is expected following the suspect’s arraignment.
