Cleveland Weather Weekend Stays Quiet Before Rain, Wind, and Thanksgiving Snow Chances

Cleveland, Ohio — Northeast Ohio wrapped up the workweek on a damp note as a broad area of steady rain spread across the region late Friday evening and persisted overnight. While the wet weather was widespread, forecasters noted that the system was not expected to produce severe storms, heavy downpours, or cause any major impacts.

Light Rain Moves Out Early Saturday

A blanket of moisture settled across much of the region Friday night, but temperatures remained mild, hovering in the upper 30s to low 40s. Meteorologists say the rain will taper off from northwest to southeast early Saturday, clearing the way for a quiet start to the weekend.

A few lingering light showers may stick around early Saturday morning, particularly for communities south of I-76, but the system should be out of the area by the time most residents start their day.

Once the rain exits, Saturday is expected to stay dry with a mix of clouds and some occasional sunshine. Afternoon highs are forecast to climb into the mid to upper 40s.

Sunday to Bring More Sun and Slightly Warmer Temps

The second half of the weekend looks even more pleasant. Sunday will feature more sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures, with highs reaching close to 50°F.

While both weekend days offer decent weather for tackling outdoor chores — like leaf cleanup or putting up holiday decor — there are a few considerations. Leaves will still be damp on Saturday from Friday night’s rainfall, and Sunday will come with a breezy edge.

Still, compared to typical late-November conditions, the weekend will feel fairly tame.

Calm Weather Ends as Thanksgiving Week Approaches

Weather patterns will shift again as the region heads toward Thanksgiving week. Monday is expected to be the best weather day of the upcoming stretch, with quiet and pleasant conditions.

By Tuesday, another round of rain showers will return, accompanied by an uptick in wind speeds. A strong cold front expected to arrive on Wednesday will bring scattered rain, gusty winds, and a notable temperature drop.

Forecasters warn that Thanksgiving Day is shaping up to be cold — and for some areas, snowy. The likelihood of lake-effect snow impacting the primary snowbelt is increasing as colder air sweeps in behind Wednesday’s front.

Long-Range Outlook: Big Chill Arrives Midweek

According to long-range projections issued by Scott on November 11, the region will hold onto a relatively mild trend through Wednesday. However, a surge of much colder air is expected to pour in late Wednesday and continue through Thanksgiving and the holiday weekend.

Residents planning holiday travel should prepare for the potential of snow, strong winds, and sharp temperature drops as the holiday nears.
