“August brings into sharp focus and a furious boil everything I’ve been listening to…” – musician Henry Rollins

The largest free summer concert series in the Northeast, CityCenter Danbury’s Concerts on the Green, sizzles in August with an appropriately “hot” lineup. Performances begin at 7:15pm, with headliners taking the Bandshell stage (at Ives Street) at 8:00pm, unless otherwise noted. The series, presented by Union Savings Bank and CityCenter Danbury, runs through Saturday, August 29th – with newly added surprises like “Thumbs Up Thursday!,” an evening of entertainment designed to appeal to the children in all of us. A suggested donation of $2 is welcomed, $5 per family. Parking is available at the Patriot Garage at 21 Delay Street (adjacent to the Green) and the Bardo Garage, nearby at 10 Library Place off Main Street.

This year, you may be picked out of the concert-going audience as a lucky “Saturday Scavenger” and given the opportunity to win valuable prizes from such Downtown donors as the Palace Danbury, Danbury Museum & Historical Society, Danbury Farmers’ Market, and more. Show up wearing a grand chapeau (after all, we are still “Hat City”) or anything that’ll make you stand out in the crowd, and you may become one of the new urban enthusiasts who are proclaiming: “There’s something going on Downtown!”

BROTHERS OF THE ROAD BAND

Since 2006 The Brothers of the Road Band has performed the music of The Allman Brothers Band from New England to Georgia. The band captures the spirit of their music with vibrant renditions of their early recordings as well as some of their more recent live recordings. In the West African culture, stories are told and traditions are celebrated with drumming and dancing.  This high-energy concert will feature members of the Kariamu Dance Troupe, students from the Danbury Music Centre’s Afrikan Drum Class, and professional dancers and drummers from CT, NY, and Africa. His last show entitled “Rock and Roll Celebration” was seen for more than 100,000 people worldwide and earned him the honor of being chosen to perform as the opening act for B.B. DANBURY DRUM CORPS 

The Danbury Drum Corps is located in Danbury, Connecticut. A modern marching band, they have provided music, entertainment, and community service in the tri-state area for over 80 years. The corps performance season runs typically from May through October with the rehearsal schedule from September to May. Membership is open to men and women from age 13 through adulthood. The corps has many members that have belonged for over 20 years! Previous musical experience is not necessary to join. Opening Act: CT Rebels

Tom Dudley a/k/a Blues Buddha is a singer, songwriter, and high energy performer and the Grand Poobah for the Blues Buddha Band. With co-conspirator Paul Opalach, Tom has written, recorded and released thirty songs over the last three years mostly from the Long Hill recording Studio in Shelton, Connecticut. Together, they rallied a lot of the best musicians in the New York tri-state area to play music and be in their videos as guest performers.  A rough-and-tumble vocalist who, in his own words, does not lock himself in to any particular style, his musical stories travel from a boogie-woogie dance beat to hard core Rock & Roll or straight up Funk to Rhythm & Blues.
