We are thrilled to have author/poet/blogger Jeanne Claire Probst join Bethel Advocate as a contributor, sharing her “Thought and Poem” written works with us. Her work covers many topics. She is excited to be fulfilling a life-long dream of writing a novel of which “The Fifteen Houses, a Novel” is her first published work. I think you will enjoy! THOUGHT AND POEM

Who doesn’t love having a cat for a family pet? Long have these felines roamed the halls of our homes and been there during our good times and bad times.
It has been my experience when people have cats; they tend to forget they are cats as we make them human for a good part of their lives. We dress them, we talk to them, we hold them and we draw from them comfort that help us get through our every days.
Often we just sit in our rooms quietly as we observe their different routines and they are apt to entertain us with their crazy antics. If we have multiple cats for pets, even if they looked alike in every aspect of their appearance, we would be able to tell them apart by their individual characteristics. Is your cat a hunter, a couch potato, a soul-mate? Are you quick to pick up what makes your cat unique?
What about you? Just for the sake of being silly, can you imagine the different types of shoes you could picture our cats wearing throughout their day? Share your thoughts with us…

CATS WEAR SHOES…

My cat wears many different types of shoes;
You never know which pairs she will wear today, as I never know which pairs she will choose.
Example: She should have been wearing her furry little “mouse slippers,” before she decided to join me on my lap for a nap,
Instead of her heavy “hiking boots,” since in doing this she scared me half to death, nearly giving me a heart attack!
And absolutely no more “opened-toed-shoes,” that allows her to clean her nails on the front of my couch,
And no more pink-to-die-for “Patent Leather tap-dancing shoes,” that sound like kettle drums as she runs about the house.
We definitely need to throw out the blingy-jeweled “baseball cleats,” as her nail-spikes are ruining my sheets,
And she needs to remove her “floral rubber boots,” that get covered with mud on rainy days, BEFORE she comes back in the house.
But I do need to get her a couple pairs of “Keds- PF-Flyer-sneakers,”
Since she is getting older and her “I-need-to-jump-on-the-counter-tops-jumping-springs,” seem to be getting weaker.
Then while we are at it we might as well get her some “hospital rubber floor gripping socks,” to wear,
So on her “I didn’t know you just waxed the floor days,” running through the house won’t send her sliding everywhere.
And while we are making some changes, we might as well update the house rules,
That will re-iterate the laws about which shoes she is allowed to use,
When she does her sneak-attack-moves and scares me half to death,
Such as when I am in a “knock-em-dead middle of the night sleep,” and she chooses to pounce on me when she jumps up on my bed.
I know she is a smart shoe wearing kitty,
And she loves wearing all her different shoes and looking pretty,
But choosing which pair she will wear today, my house rules she must obey,
If she wants to continue to live in my house, where she can be loved, have her needs met, and have a place to sleep and play.

The Fifteen Houses, a Novel
The Fifteen Houses is the first book of this new and exciting series to be published. Staged in the beautiful and scenic palate of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in the early 1950’s, the main character delves into her reoccurring and discomforting memories of her younger, formative years. Searching for answers to questions that have resurfaced in her mind over and over again during her time away from her family, she seeks to find rhyme and reasons to her insecurities, anger, phobias, fears, and life’s choices. Julianne Marguerite, one of eleven children, is determined to uncover the “mystery” that resulted in the downfall of her family. As you turn the pages in the book, each series of memories, will open a different door, to the different homes, (“Fifteen” to be exact).
