Bakersfield, CA – A car crash late Monday night caused significant damage to two homes on La Mirada Drive in central Bakersfield, marking the third such incident in the neighborhood over the past few years, according to local residents. Authorities are investigating the crash, but no serious injuries were reported.
Crash Occurs Around 11:30 p.m.
The accident took place at approximately 11:30 p.m., when a vehicle lost control on a bend just past a bridge over the West Side Parkway and crashed into the living room of one home, damaging both properties.
“There was damage to my lawn, to my wall, our fence, and the car was through my neighbor’s living room,” one homeowner said, describing the aftermath of the crash.
Another resident recounted to a local news outlet:
“I got off the couch, went into the bedroom to go to sleep, next thing I knew I started hearing stuff hitting stuff.”
Driver Flees Scene, Vehicle Abandoned
The vehicle had three passengers at the time of the crash. The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving the car behind. Law enforcement officers are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been reported. Fortunately, no serious injuries occurred among the occupants or the homeowners.
The crash has raised concerns due to the location, which is known for frequent speeding and driver loss of control. Residents say the curve near the bridge creates a hazardous stretch of road, especially at night.
Neighborhood Sees Third Crash in Recent Years
This incident is the third crash on the same street in just three years. One frustrated resident described the history:
“The first time, they totaled two of my cars and the fire hydrant. The second one, they hit my son-in-law’s car and totaled it. And this is the third one since I’ve been here, and I’ve been here three years.”
Residents have expressed frustration over repeated incidents and are calling for city officials to implement safety measures, such as better signage, speed bumps, or traffic calming solutions to prevent future accidents.
Community Concerns
Neighbors are urging authorities to take action to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers. Many say that without proper intervention, similar crashes are likely to continue, posing a danger to the community and property.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and local officials may consider additional traffic safety evaluations in the area.
