Bronx, New York – A terrifying road rage incident in the Bronx left a 39-year-old livery cab driver, Osei “Ozzy” Kusi, stabbed multiple times and critically injured early Wednesday morning. Police and law enforcement sources say the attack occurred near Randall Avenue and White Plains Road around 2:30 a.m., when Kusi confronted an enraged motorist.
Repeated Stabbings Left Victim for Dead
According to authorities and the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers (NYSFTD), Kusi was stabbed in the back and lower abdomen, reportedly at least seven times, before being left behind the wheel of his Toyota SUV with TLC plates. Kusi initially called a friend for help before police arrived on the scene to find him unconscious and covered in blood.
“This is attempted murder,” said NYSFTD spokesperson and founder Fernando Mateo during a press briefing. “He left him there to die.”
Medical Response and Current Condition
Kusi was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was treated in critical condition. Police later confirmed that his condition has improved, and he is now considered stable. Authorities have not made any arrests, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Background on Victim
Kusi is a Ghanaian immigrant who has been working as a ride-share driver for Lyft and Uber since 2019, supporting his family back home. Mateo emphasized that Kusi is a family-oriented and law-abiding individual, describing him as calm, respectful, and committed to providing for his loved ones.
“He’s a family guy. He’s 39 years old. He’s from Ghana. Their culture doesn’t allow them to be violent — it’s about being nice,” Mateo said as per The Post.
Law Enforcement and Community Response
The NYSFTD has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Kusi’s attacker. Mateo expressed hope that the vehicle’s internal camera footage may help police identify the suspect.
He also urged the Bronx District Attorney to ensure that the suspect, once caught, is not released on bail, stressing the severity of the crime.
Road Rage Safety Advice
Highlighting the dangers of confrontations, Mateo advised drivers to avoid escalating arguments on the road.
“So don’t take the risk of arguing with people that don’t care about anything,” he said, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation for personal safety.
