BREAKING NEWS: Suspected Terror Attack, Truck Mows Down 20 People on Bike Path in Tribeca, 8 Dead, 11 Injured

A driver in a Home Depot rented truck drove the wrong way down a bike path on Tuesday, at 3:05 p.m., beginning at the West Side Highway, purposely striking 20 people, 8 are dead and 11 injured, 2 in critical condition, and have been brought to local hospitals.

A school bus with 2 adults and 2 children aboard seems to have been deliberately targeted, reports NBC News.  The truck drove into the bus injuring 2 adults and 2 children. The condition of those injured in the bus is not known.

The driver exited the white truck and appeared to have 2 guns, one or two later found to be fake, possibly a paint ball gun and BB gun, and/or including a real gun.  The suspect fired into the crowd. This was treated as an active shooter incident.  Police shot the driver, he is still alive and police took him into custody, driven to Bellevue hospital in an ambulance.

The event happened over the course of several blocks in the Tribeca neighborhood in lower Manhattan a few blocks from the World Trade Center, ending at Chambers and West streets. Nearby Stuyvesant High School was immediately locked down, reports Fox19 News.

The sidewalk was covered in bodies and mangled bicycles.

Police are treating this as a suspected act of terror, reports NBC News.

The suspect has an ID with a Florida address on it, and rented the truck in another state, possibly New Jersey, reports NBC News.
