Breaking News: Shooting at Great Mills High School in Maryland

Police are at Great Mills High School in Maryland, after reports of a shooting came in at about began at 8 a.m. this morning, authorities said, reports NBC. There are approximately 1,600 students that attend the school, which is located 60miles east of Washington D.C..

“A student pulled a gun out and shot two other students at a high school in southeast Maryland Tuesday morning before the shooter was wounded, the St. Mary’s County sheriff said,” reports NBC Washington.

“The gunman entered Great Mills High School in Great Mills, Maryland, at the beginning of the school day and shot a female student in a hallway, Sheriff Tim Cameron said. A male student was also hit by a bullet,” NBC Washington reports. “The shooter exchanged fire with a school resource officer on campus and was wounded, Cameron said. All three students are in critical condition, but the officer wasn’t injured,” they reported.

The school is on lock down and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also heading to the scene, reports NBC.  The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office told parents to not go to the school even though the incident s contained.  Officials are trying to reunite students with their families, according to Corporal Julie Yingling, a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, reports NBC.

This incident is occurring right before a national march this Saturday, after a massacre of 17 people at a Parkland, Florida High School on February 14, 2018.

Students at Great Mills High School did participate in the Match 14th protest  honoring the Florida school victims.
