Message from Bethel Public Schools Superintendent Christine Carver, Ed. D. issued 15 minutes ago today, October 4, 2016:

“We take the safety of our staff and students very seriously. There has been a series of rumors circulating on social media regarding a report of a threatening statement made by a student at Bethel High School. There was a threat made in September and it was thoroughly investigated and determined that there was no safety risk for staff or students at Bethel High School. No one was in danger. We conducted our own administrative investigation and involved the Bethel Police Department. Since September, no further threats were made and further rumors were unfounded. Mr. Troetti sent three email communications to BHS parents regarding the matter. The communications were not extended to parents district-wide, as they did not affect any other schools.

“Although there can be positive uses for social media, in instances such as these it can also create a forum for the spread of misinformation. We would ask that students and/or parents contact the BHS administration directly with information they would like to share, as the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority.”

Please know that based on our investigation, no further threats were made and the rumors are unfounded. However, we take these matters seriously and will continue to investigate any concerns as they arise. Although there can be positive uses for social media, in instances such as these it can also create a forum for the spread of misinformation.  We ask that students and/or parents contact the BHS administration directly with information they would like to share.  The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. We thank you for your continued partnership in this matter.”

“This morning at approximately 8:00 am the Bethel High School High administration was made aware of a threatening statement made by a student.  Upon learning this information the student was detained and district safety protocols were followed.  Please know that at no time were any students or staff members in danger.  We would like to thank the students and staff who responded immediately upon hearing this information.”
