Breaking: CT State Police Called to Danbury Fair Mall for Shots Fired

CT State Police:

“Connecticut State Police is assisting Danbury Police Department with a report of shots fired at the Danbury Fair Mall. We are asking everyone to please avoid the area.”

UPDATE Aug. 11, 2021 / 8:53PM:

“Police said a female victim was shot Wednesday night inside the Danbury Fair mall. Danbury Police Capt. Mike Sturdevant said the victim, whose age was not immediately released, was shot inside the mall, but she was found outside. He said she was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries,” reports the Danbury News Times.

The doors to the mall were immediately locked, and a thorough search is being conducted, during which people were systematically being released from the mall. CT State Police were called to assist Danbury Police and the FBI were at the scene. The shooter remains at large, as of around 8:30 p.m. tonight, according to Danbury Police Capt. Mike Sturdevant, the News Times reports. The focus was near the Macys store.


UPDATE Aug. 11, 2021 / 9:32PM:

“A 16-year-old was injured in a shooting at the Danbury Fair Mall Wednesday night, according to police,” NBC News reports, “Police said they were called to the shooting around 7 p.m. The female victim was shot in the chest and was alert and conscious when emergency crews arrived. She was taken to Danbury Hospital and her condition was not immediately clear.”

“The mall is still on lockdown and police are still clearing the mall but do not know how many suspects are involved,” reports NBC News, “Brian Foley, spokesperson for the state Department of Emergency Services, said preliminary information is that this is not an active shooter or mass shooting type incident.”

UPDATE Aug. 11, 2021 / 10:20PM:

The city of Danbury released the following information:

At approximately 7:02 pm the Danbury Police dispatch received a report of shots fired at the Danbury Fair Mall near Macy’s. Upon arrival officers found a sixteen year old female suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper chest area. She was alert and conscious.

The mall was immediately placed on lockdown.It is unknown at this time how many suspects are involved or if they are still in the mall. Police officers are still inside systematically clearing the building.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Danbury Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time and identity is being withheld.It is believed to be an isolated incident but still under investigation.Danbury Police are being assisted by the CT State Police and several area police departments.We will release more information as it becomes available.
