Bethel Supercross BMX To Host Free Olympic Day Race on Wednesday, June 20th
Free for all participants with the top three riders in each age class awarded medals in a Podium Ceremony
BETHEL, CT, June 15, 2018 – Bethel Supercross BMX Track, in association with USA BMX and the U.S. Olympic Committee, will host a free Olympic Day Race on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. (Rain date is the next Wednesday as races are held each week.)
Registration for the race will be from 4:30-6:15 pm. Balance bike (strider) racing starts at 6:45 pm with all other races commencing at 7:00 pm. The race will be free for all participants and spectators.
The goal behind the special event is to promote BMX racing, an Olympic sport that is growing strongly in Connecticut.
“This is a fantastic free event that we hope attracts new riders to come see what the great sport of BMX is all about,” said Donald Olson, Track Director at Bethel Supercross BMX. “It’s our 36th year of racing here in Bethel we have introduced thousands of people of all ages to BMX. Last week we had a turnout of 50 balance bike racers between the ages of 1–5, which is the largest turnout in the country for riders this age!
It’s great to see so many younger riders getting into the sport – and many are graduating to race pedal bikes, which is driving our growing attendance each week.
This year we have riders ranging from one year old up to 62 years old, showing BMX is a sport for all ages. We have many families with parents racing, as well as their children. We also have the most female riders we’ve ever had, with some of our girl racers competing nationally. We host races every Wednesday and it’s like having a big second family with all the friends you see at the track every week.”
Bethel Supercross BMX is a non-profit organization that is entirely run by volunteers. Please spread the word that everyone is welcome to attend our free Olympic Day event on Wednesday, June 20th.
