On December 10, 2018, Southbury Police received a complaint from a 25 year old female about being harassed on SnapChat by someone. She informed police that someone had logged into her SnapChat account and sent her her own photographs with a short video containing inappropriate material. Through the use of multiple search warrants to the SnapChat application and Internet Service Providers, Southbury Police were able to locate the physical address that was associated with the person improperly logging into the female victim’s account.
In February of 2019, Members of the Southbury Police Department, Bethel Police Department, and CSP Troop A executed a search warrant at 35 South Street, Apt. 2, in Bethel. Multiple electronic devices, compact discs and USB sticks were seized. The suspect was identified as Kyle Coffey (DOB 07/02/1990). Southbury Police then conducted a forensic search of the seized material and found evidence that Coffey had stolen or attempted to steal photographs of multiple females by hacking their email or SnapChat
account. Southbury Police were able to find two more victims through an interview with Coffey and the forensic search of the seized material. The victims were contacted and made aware of the breach. During the forensic search, Southbury Police discovered mulitple images and videos of child pornography.
On February 21, 2020, Kyle Coffey was taken into custody by members of the Southbury Police Department and the Bethel Police Department on the power of an arrest warrant signed by Danbury Superior Court. Coffey was charged with:

53a-182, Disorderly Conduct
53a-183, Harassment Second Degree
Coffey was detained on a $250,000 court set bond and is set to appear before Danbury Superior Court
on Monday, February 24, 2020.
Southbury Police Officer Mathew Ezzo was the primary investigator with Corporal Grillo assisting and conducting the forensic search of seized material.
