Bethel Pro-Access Teen Center Director Hilda DeLucia Is Leaving to Pursue Another Venture
Bethel Pro-Access Teen Center Director Hilda DeLucia has announced she is leaving her position effective the end of January 2016. DeLucia has served as director for eight years and will now be a volunteer in Washington state with AmeriCorps.
DeLucia set up a GoFundMe page “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty” for anyone interested in helping her with her new venture. She wrote:
“I’ve been helping people navigate the job search process for over 8 years. I’ve spent a good portion of that time helping individuals from low income communities in CT secure healthcare jobs through The Workplace Inc.’s HealthCareer Academy. I was honored to receive The Workplace Partner of the Year Award this past June.
“This summer I also was fortunate to spend a week in Arizona and get a taste of the beauty and magnificense of the West. I also saw the poverty and challenges faced by farming communities and Native American populations in this region.
“I started researching ways I could make a difference while coupling my desire to temporarily live out West. That’s when I found AmeriCorps Vista and a position at a community action agency. The agency’s mission is to help break the cycle of poverty by empowering their clients with necessary tools and workforce skills.
“This was the perfect fit for my background. I applied for the position and was accepted to begin in February 2016 for one year of service.
Within 24 hours of posting about my new adventure on Facebook I received an incredible amount of support and encouragement. People inboxed me asking if they could help support my project.
“I’ve started this account in an effort to give those interested in financially supporting my venture an opportunity to contribute. I am humbled to give back to those in need and with your support financially or emotionally I am confident we will help make a difference in the lives of those in need in Skagit County, Washington. Thank you.”

The Bethel Youth Commission asked that I put out a notice letting everyone know that the town is fully committed to continuing to provide services for 7th-12th grade students living in Bethel. We met with Matt Knickerbocker this week and he assured the Commission that the town will be posting a job description within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, your children can continue to enjoy the same programs, services and activities that you’ve come to expect from Pro Access. Hilda Valdespino, the current Director will no longer be active in the teen center after January 31st. She will be available up to that time to make sure the transition to a permanent or interim directorship is seamless.
