Bethel Police Warn of Scammers Distracting Homeowners to Gain Entry into Their Homes, or Phone Scams

Report by Paula Antolini, April 21, 2021, 11:15AM EDT

Message from the Bethel Police Department:

Distraction burglaries continue to be an ongoing threat throughout Connecticut.

Several incidents throughout the past few months have included scammers posing as employees from various occupations such as state jobs, water supply businesses, and energy companies. Scammers pose as employees of these companies in order to “distract” victims and gain entry into their homes.

Additionally, scammers have posed as energy or service providers over the phone and insist that the victim pay their outstanding bill.

Please be mindful of the potential for these incidents and call the Bethel Police Department should you observe or experience any suspicious activity.
