Message from Bethel Police Department:
Good Morning Bethel,
We have another important advisory for you to share with friends and loved ones!
As we are all aware, vehicles have been broken into and stolen frequently over the past few years. Our recommendation has always been to ensure that your vehicles are locked with no valuables inside. While this remains to be sound advice, we have more to add in light of recent events. Those engaging in these criminal activities are now using signal boosters to steal locked vehicles while the key fobs are INSIDE residences.
What can you do? Faraday boxes or pouches (as pictured) are one potential way to prevent the signal boosters from being effective. These items can be found online or on popular websites like Amazon. Should you be unable to make such a purchase at this time, try tin foil (yes really)! Wrap your keys inside the foil and attempt to utilize them. If you are unable to lock and unlock the car while the keys are inside the foil, the signal may be successfully disrupted. When all else fails, keep your key fobs in a location that is further away from where your vehicle is being parked.
