Guitar I (Grades 9 – 12 – .5 credit)
Prerequisite: 8th Grade Guitar or approval from instructor – 1 semester
Guitar I expands upon the introductory course offered in Bethel Middle School. Class members will enhance their understanding of the guitar through the study of scales, chords and left and right hand techniques. There will be a focus on improving music literacy skills using both standard notation and tablature. Chosen repertoire will be comprised of a variety of classic and contemporary musical styles, and will take into account individual student interest. Lessons in improvisation and songwriting will also be incorporated into the class. Students must provide their own acoustic guitar (steel or nylon); a limited number of school-owned instruments will be made available to students in need.
