Bethel First Selectman Knickerbocker: ‘This discussion is not over’ Regarding Eversource’s Failure to Respond Quickly to Power Outage

Report by Paula Antolini, August 12, 2020, 1:45PM EDT

Storm Update for Wednesday, August 12, 2020 @ 12:00pm

As some of you are very much aware, Eversource did not quite meet their goal of 99% restoration by 6pm last night. In addition, it does not appear that their online outage map is accurate. As of 11:30 this morning, the map shows only 13 outages, but based on emails to my office, we believe there are more than that.

Please know we are cataloging every address we receive by email and sending it to our contacts at Eversource. You can help us further by emailing or calling us when your power does come back on so we can update our list.

We are aware there are many Eversource crews working in our town today to address the remaining outages. We have been informed that some of the last outages are related to damage to underground equipment and individual service lines.

We will continue to follow up with the company until all of the reconnections are complete.

I want to thank everyone in our community for your patience and for watching out for your neighbors. This has been a difficult experience for all of us. I want to assure everyone that this will not be forgotten when all the lights are back on. Municipal officials across the state are pressing state officials, legislators and regulators to force the company to improve its storm preparedness and ability to respond. This discussion is not over.

Matt Knickerbocker
