Bethel Fire Depts. Respond to Fire on Quaker Ridge Road

Report by Paula Antolini, July 6, 2021, 8:01AM EDT

Report from Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company:

At just before 3:30pm on 7/4/21 Stony Hill & Bethel Fire & EMS were alerted to a reported house fire on Quaker Ridge Road.

Within 2 minutes, a Stony Hill volunteer was on scene reporting smoke showing from a bedroom window and the incident was escalated to a working structure fire.

Stony Hill Engine 3 arrived on scene and stretched a hose line to the front door.

All residents & pets were safely evacuated and it appeared that the fire was still contained to one bedroom.

Engine 3’s crew made entry into the home and quickly extinguished the bedroom fire before it could extend to the rest of the home.

A quick thinking resident closed the bedroom door where the fire was before exiting the home. This move helped contain the fire and deprive it of the oxygen needed for it to grow.

Members remained on scene overhauling the room and removing the burnt debris.

There were no injuries and the cause is currently under investigation by Bethel Emergency Management & Fire Marshal.

Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company and Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company #1 provided station coverage at Stony Hill.

The Red Cross responded to the scene to provide assistance to the family.
