Report by Paula Antolini, January 20, 2019, 1:00PM EDT

Bethel Emergency Management storm update Jan. 20, 9am:

A light rain continues w/ temps right at 32°. Rain will be intermittent for another couple of hours. Use caution as the snow is removed from sidewalks & walkways, the rain is refreezing on contact.

Roads have been plowed and sanded but remain slippery.

Use caution shoveling as the snow is extremely wet and heavy.

PD & FD have responded to only a few calls for wires or tree branches down and Eversource reports a very small number of power outages.

If you do lose power be sure to call Eversource @ 1-800-286-2000 to report it so they can have the best information on location and # of customers affected. Don’t assume someone else who has an outage called it in.

Here’s the remainder of the forecast for this afternoon and overnight from CT DEMHS:

Sunday Afternoon: Icing should end by noon and any mixed precipitation is forecast to change back to a few hours light snow during the early-afternoon and end by 4:00 PM. Temperatures are forecast to begin rapidly falling late in the afternoon as NW winds increase and gust to 35 – 40 MPH at times. The cold temperatures and wind are expected to flash freeze any remaining standing water on roads. Also, the gusty winds will likely cause some additional power outages.

Sunday Night: Bitterly cold air is forecast to rush into the state Sunday night with temperatures falling to near 0 F by daybreak on Monday and wind chills between -10 and -20 F. A minor to moderate impact on driving is expected overnight.

UPDATE Jan. 20, 2PM:

? ALERT! ?
Use caution if you venture out today. Trees have a heavy coating of ice and with the wind picking up tree limbs are falling creating hazardous conditions.

Please Stay Home!
