Message from Bethel Emergency management and Fiore marshal:
Our Town Unified Command team is meeting this morning and are making preparations to respond to the storm.
Our forecast shows the storm arriving overnight tonight/early Sunday morning with heavy rains and winds. The storm track shows a New Haven County area landfall, BUT any wobble west or east can change the effects in our area.
We are expecting several inches of rain. Exact amounts are unpredictable based on where exactly the bands set up. But it’s best to be prepared for 3-5” of rain during Sunday. If your home is prone to flooding, now is the time to prepare for it. Wind- expect 40mph winds with higher gusts, This will take down trees and cause widespread power outages, Our EOC team will be assigned a Liaison from Eversource to work directly with us in restoration. Damage assessment will be done when it is safe to do so (expected late Sunday evening) and we will relay info about charging/cooling centers for residents most likely starting Monday.
Residents are reminded to make preparations and follow these tips:
Be sure to charge your cell phones and electronic devices before the storm hits.
Have extra batteries and flashlights on hand and bring in any loose lawn furniture, umbrellas, etc.
If your area is susceptible to power outages and you have a well, you should have extra water on hand as needed.
If your home is prone to flooding- prep by placing items off the floor, check your sump pumps.
Do not drive during the storm- flooded streets and falling trees are a hazard.
Generators should only be used outdoors away from any openings into the home.
Fill your vehicles with fuel.
Have food, water & medications on hand.

Use 911 for true emergencies.
