Bethel CERT Volunteers Ensure the Town is Properly Prepared for Emergency Situations
No detail is too small when it comes to emergency situations. The Bethel Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), along with a BHS student doing community service hours, were hard at work this past weekend, organizing emergency supplies located on the lower level of the CJH Municipal Center. It took a team of seven to do the work (yes, lots of heavy lifting) under the guidance of CERT Team Leader Teresa Fogel and Bethel Emergency Management Director Thomas Galliford.
CERT is always looking for more members. It’s a good way to get involved and meet local residents while learning all about emergency management. You can receive valuable information about more training opportunities in the field too.

Areas that the CERT members will assist Town agencies include: Disaster Response, Emergency Operations Center staffing, Health Emergency Response, Shelter Set up and Management, Animal Sheltering, and Disaster Preparedness Public Education.
CERT is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors in the event of a disaster. During an incident, emergency service personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away. By getting trained in CERT, you will have the skills to help emergency responders save lives and protect property.
The initial training program includes fire safety, disaster preparedness, disaster psychology, terrorism, and first aid.
