BEND, Ore. – A major drug bust on Highway 26 led to the arrest of a local woman suspected of trafficking large amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine from Portland to Central Oregon, law enforcement officials reported Thursday.
Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest
According to Lt. Mike Landolt of the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE), 48-year-old Sunshine Wright was stopped on Wednesday night near Cherry Lane in Jefferson County. Officers initially pulled her over for traffic violations, but suspicions arose that she might be transporting illegal substances.
Following the traffic stop, a K9 unit alerted authorities to the presence of drugs inside Wright’s vehicle. This prompted CODE detectives to obtain a search warrant, leading to the discovery of a significant quantity of narcotics.
Drugs Seized by Authorities
During the search, law enforcement recovered approximately:
- 80 grams of fentanyl
- 80 grams of methamphetamine
- Over 10 grams of cocaine
Additional drug paraphernalia was also found in the vehicle, according to Lt. Landolt. Following the seizure, Wright was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, as per the reports.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Jefferson County prosecutors have filed four felony counts against Wright, relating to the manufacture, possession, and delivery of methamphetamine and fentanyl. Her arraignment is scheduled for November 28, authorities confirmed.
CODE emphasized that drug trafficking cases like this one pose a serious threat to the Central Oregon community and remain a priority for local law enforcement.
Community Impact
Officials are urging residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to drugs in their neighborhoods. Drug trafficking can have severe consequences for public safety, and local law enforcement continues to crack down on such operations.
