Beech Grove, IN – A woman has been arrested after authorities discovered her dog dead in a tote containing chemicals and maggots, according to court documents and police reports.
Discovery of the Dead Dog
Police responded Monday to the 200 block of South 6th Avenue following an animal investigation call. The caller reported that a dead dog had been placed in a tote full of chemicals and left at her workplace.
Officers arrived and spoke with Kiley Dodd, who explained that she had found a blue tote near her vehicle around 7:30 p.m.. When she opened it, she discovered her dog dead inside, wrapped in blankets and coated with chemicals.
Conflicting Statements
Initially, Dodd claimed that someone else had left the dog in the tote and that she had a disagreement with that person. She also mentioned a note that read, “For Kiley, here’s your dog,” but later admitted she lost the note.
After police investigated, they confronted Dodd about inconsistencies in her story. She then admitted that her dog had died on September 26, and she had wrapped it in a blanket and placed it in the tote, planning to bury the dog.
Dodd told police that she did not live in the apartment where the dog had been staying but would periodically return to check on it. She confirmed she acted alone and that no one else knew about the dog’s condition.
Charges and Court Appearance
Dodd was arrested and charged with cruelty to an animal, a Class A Misdemeanor. The dead dog was taken into custody by animal control for further investigation, according to a local news outlet.
