Baton Rouge, LA – Residents in south Louisiana should prepare for a mix of sun, heat, and scattered storms as weather conditions remain unseasonably hot through the end of the week. Meanwhile, the Atlantic hurricane season continues to stay active with Tropical Storm Gabrielle and two additional tropical waves under monitoring.
Local Forecast
On Thursday, the Baton Rouge area will see partly sunny skies with highs reaching the 90s, well above the normal afternoon high in the upper 80s for this time of year.
- Afternoon storms may develop, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds.
- Overnight lows will remain mild, with temperatures near 70 degrees.
- Conditions will stay summer-like into early next week, despite the official start of fall on Monday.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) confirmed that Tropical Storm Gabrielle formed in the Atlantic on Wednesday morning, making it the seventh named storm of the 2025 hurricane season.
At the moment, Gabrielle is battling dry air, which is slowing its development. However, forecasters expect the storm to move into a more favorable environment by the weekend, when it could strengthen into a hurricane.
- Impact: Gabrielle is not expected to threaten the U.S. at this time.
- Concern: The storm could pose risks to Bermuda as it develops further.
Two More Tropical Waves
In addition to Gabrielle, the NHC is tracking two tropical waves trailing behind the storm. Both systems could see gradual development through the weekend and into next week.
Meteorologists at WAFB stress that while these systems are too far out to determine exact paths, they are being closely monitored for potential impacts in the Caribbean and beyond.
Looking Ahead
- Storm chances increase by the middle of next week.
- Forecast models show higher rain coverage across south Louisiana.
- Temperatures are expected to drop closer to seasonal averages as the pattern shifts.
