Avon 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer, Oct. 17-18 NYC
Bethel resident Irene Carmosino-Santangelo and Mary Palazzolo of White Plains, and many others, are participating in the AVON 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer on Oct. 17-18, 2015 in New York City. Carmosino-Santangelo’s team has raised over $1400 so far, for the cause.
Participants will walk 39.3 miles in 2 days, through Manhattan and back again. Walkers will conquer the Upper West and East Sides, Greenwich Village, SoHo, and Chinatown with views of Central Park, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. They will even cross the legendary Brooklyn Bridge on their way to the finish line.
Walking 2 days and 39 miles is hard. But it pales in comparison to chemo and radiation. The blisters and sore muscles are a badge of courage. A reminder that the supporters are doing something heroic.
AVON 39 is a challenge. AVON 39 is an attitude. AVON 39 is a weekend like they’ve never had before. On the road to 39, no matter how far they walk, they’ll crush fear, doubt and breast cancer – one persistent step and donation at a time.
For 13 years, people have been coming together to walk 39 miles for one reason: to stop breast cancer. Now’s the time for everyone to step up and make it happen. Their personal AVON 39 success is a chance to save lives and change history.

Since its inception in 1955, the fundamental mission of the Avon Foundation for Women has been to promote or aid charitable, scientific, educational, and humanitarian activities, with a special emphasis on those activities that improve the lives of women and their families.
Fund the most promising work; Convene its grantees, partners and other thought leaders to collaborate and share best practices for improved outcomes; Initiate new directions and innovative projects to accelerate progress; and Educate the general public and key audiences to drive and change behavior to achieve its mission goals.
A woman has a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime.*
Every 3 minutes, there is a new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer.*
Approximately 230,480 women and 2,140 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.*
