Audi Driver Arrested for DUI after 130 mph Chase on Indiana Highway

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. – A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly driving at over 130 miles per hour while intoxicated on Interstate 65 in Tippecanoe County.

Traffic Stop and Speed Violation

According to the Indiana State Police (ISP), the incident occurred near the 172-mile marker on I-65 just before 8:00 a.m. A state trooper conducting a routine highway patrol observed a 2019 Audi S5 traveling at an extremely high rate of speed—more than double the posted speed limit of 65 mph.

The trooper pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Anthony Lane, a resident of Monticello, Indiana, as per reports from Fox59.

Signs of Impairment and Arrest

During the traffic stop, the trooper detected signs that Lane may have been under the influence of alcohol. After further evaluation at the scene, Lane was placed under arrest and transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.

He now faces misdemeanor charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated
  • Reckless driving

Dangers of High-Speed Drunk Driving

Driving under the influence is already dangerous, but combining alcohol with speeds exceeding 130 mph turns a reckless act into a potentially deadly one. At that velocity, stopping distance increases dramatically, and even minor misjudgments can result in fatal crashes.

This incident is a stark reminder that drinking and driving can have serious consequences—not just legally, but in risking lives on the road.

Efforts to Combat DUI in Indiana

Indiana State Police continue to prioritize DUI enforcement and speed regulation, especially on major highways like I-65. Through sobriety checkpoints, increased patrols, and public awareness campaigns, the state hopes to reduce these high-risk behaviors that endanger both drivers and innocent bystanders.

Stay Safe and Drive Sober

If you’re planning to drink, make arrangements for a designated driver, use a rideshare service, or rely on public transportation. Just one poor decision can have lifelong consequences—for yourself and others.
