Phoenix, AZ – Arizona residents can expect changing weather conditions this week, with increasing chances of rain and thunderstorms across the state, particularly toward the end of the week. Officials are also reminding drivers to stay safe amid extreme heat and potential dust storms.
Tuesday Evening: Calm Conditions
Tuesday evening remains quiet across the Valley, following earlier showers and thunderstorms that moved east through the White Mountains and the eastern Mogollon Rim. Rain is expected to end by 10 p.m., leading to a dry night statewide. Overnight lows in the Valley will fall into the low 80s.
Wednesday: Heat and Scattered Storms
Wednesday will bring highs around 102 degrees in the Valley, under partly to mostly cloudy skies.
- Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in southern Arizona during the afternoon.
- Isolated storms may occur in east-central Arizona.
- The Valley could see blowing dust or a minor dust storm Wednesday evening from southern storms, though rain chances remain low at 10%.
Thursday and Friday: Rain Chances Improve
By Thursday, moisture and cloudier skies are expected to bring highs dropping into the upper 90s in the Valley and central Arizona, along with improved rain chances.
Friday is forecast to be the wettest day of the week, with scattered showers affecting much of Arizona, including the Valley.
Weekend: Warm and Dry

Temperatures over the weekend will remain in the upper 90s, with conditions gradually drying out and warming up.
Driving Safely in Extreme Heat
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) urges residents to take precautions when driving in extreme temperatures:
- Sun Protection: Use sunscreen, wide-brimmed hats, umbrellas, and wear loose-fitting, light-colored cotton clothing.
- Fuel Up: Keep your gas tank at three-quarters full, especially when traveling in remote areas.
- Hydrate: Carry plenty of cold drinking water, including frozen bottles to stay cool. Ensure pets are hydrated and safe.
- Get Help: If your vehicle breaks down, call for assistance immediately. Use AC if working, or roll down windows.
- Wait Safely: Exit your vehicle if it becomes too hot. Seek or create shaded areas, and avoid walking directly on hot pavement. Keep pets’ paws protected and shoes on.
- Check Your Vehicle: Ensure your car is in good condition. Check AC, coolant levels, battery, and tire pressure, as hot pavement combined with under-inflated tires can lead to blowouts.
