NEWS FROM SURROUNDING AREA:

A called-in threat to the St. Rose of Lima School on Church Hill Road resulted in the Newtown Schools Superintendent Joseph Erardi declaring a lock-in open status
at 1:44 p.m., for both Hawley Elementary School and Newtown Middle School.

This procedure means an armed police officer is placed at the entrance to the driveways and no one is allowed to enter or exit the schools, but schools operate as usual inside, and dismissal time is regular.

The threat called into St. Rose of Lima School was deemed to be no threat on a 2:30 p.m. update of this story. Lock-ins were lifted for St. Rose of Lima School and also Hawley Elementary and Newtown Middle School and all students and staff are safe.

Today’s lock-in comes after a similar threatening situation that took place at Newtown High School last Monday.
