Thanksgiving Blaze Claimed 2 Lives in Orange; Community in Mourning

Orange, NJ — A fast-moving fire ripped through a home on Mosswood Avenue in Orange, New Jersey, on Thanksgiving evening, resulting in the deaths of two people, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Flames reportedly broke out around 5 p.m., and although the fire department arrived within minutes, responders were unable to save the victims inside the home.

Community Reacts

Neighbors expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy. Claire Stevens, who lives nearby, shared her concern:

“My grandson was good friends with one of the young people that lived there. And she’s out of the country right now. And I’m just really concerned that maybe she doesn’t know about her relatives that live in the house that might have been affected by the fire.”

Residents were seen keeping warm inside an NJ Transit bus, while the American Red Cross provided a family of eight with emergency financial assistance for temporary lodging, food, and other immediate needs.

Neighbor Matthew Mehr recalled the victims fondly:

“I just know that they kept their yard really nice and whenever I would go for a walk or run, they were super friendly.”

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Emergency crews and local officials are working to determine what sparked the blaze, as per the reports.

Community Support

Residents are remembering the victims and keeping their families in their prayers. Local organizations continue to assist displaced families as recovery efforts begin.
