Truck Driver Arrested in Rawlins after Firing Multiple Shots at Vehicle Carrying a Child Passenger

Rawlins, WY — A truck driver is in custody following a dangerous road rage incident that occurred on Thursday, Nov. 20, in Rawlins, Wyoming, when the driver fired multiple shots at a vehicle carrying a child passenger, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).

Incident Details

The WHP reported that the incident occurred about 20 miles east of Rawlins on the interstate. A Ram pickup truck was attempting to pass a semi-trailer westbound when the semi driver brandished a firearm, reportedly pointing it through the driver’s-side window before firing multiple rounds.

The dangerous encounter was witnessed by a passenger in another vehicle, who immediately called authorities.

Child Passenger Unharmed

Despite the gunfire, no one was injured. Troopers confirmed that a bullet hole struck the front passenger-side door of the Ram, and authorities learned there was a child in the backseat during the incident.

The Ram driver kept the semi in sight until safely exiting the interstate and reporting the incident to the Rawlins WYDOT office.

Investigation and Arrest

Using the description provided, WHP troopers located the semi west of Rawlins and conducted a probable-cause search. Authorities recovered a firearm in the truck along with two spent rounds.

The semi driver was subsequently taken into custody, with charges pending as the investigation continues, according to WHP Public Information Officer Aaron Brown.

Road Rage in Wyoming

Brown noted that road rage incidents remain a serious problem on Wyoming highways, with 130 separate reports filed in 2025 alone. He reminded commuters:

  • Do not engage if involved in a road rage incident
  • Get a good description of the vehicle involved
  • Safely exit the roadway and report the incident to authorities

“These incidents are a major safety hazard for all drivers,” Brown said in the WHP release.
