Laurel, MD – A months-long undercover investigation has brought down an alleged firearms trafficking operation involving a father and son in Howard County, according to police. Authorities say the two men were indicted after detectives pieced together extensive evidence showing their involvement in illegal gun and drug distribution across the region.
According to police, the case began after officers received a tip that someone was selling illegal firearms throughout the county. Detectives then launched a covert operation that spanned several months as they tracked transactions, monitored surveillance, and gathered detailed intelligence.
Officials said the undercover effort ultimately led to the removal of high-powered rifles, handguns, and dangerous drugs from local streets.
Undercover Purchases Lead to Breakthrough
According to charging documents, detectives conducted two controlled purchases with 38-year-old Martese Kosh, who was allegedly selling weapons from parking lots and motels in the Laurel area.
On both occasions, an undercover detective met Kosh at the Days Inn on Washington Boulevard, where Kosh sold firearms including:
- A rifle
- A handgun
- A revolver reportedly listed as stolen
Detectives monitored the transactions in real time using live-streaming audio and video surveillance, helping investigators confirm not only Kosh’s identity but the extent of his operations, as per the reports.
Investigators Identify Second Suspect — the Father
After tracking the younger Kosh’s movements, detectives discovered that he frequently operated out of the nearby Turf Motel, which raised further suspicion. Investigators soon identified a second suspect: 60-year-old Ronald Kosh, Martese’s father.
Detectives allege the firearms trafficking operation was a family-run business, extending beyond Washington Boulevard and into neighboring jurisdictions.
Search Warrant Expands the Case
Last month, detectives executed a search warrant at Ronald Kosh’s apartment in Ellicott City, where they uncovered a substantial amount of drugs and weapons. Items seized included:
- Cocaine
- Heroin
- Fentanyl
- Packaging materials such as miniature drug bags
- Multiple guns and ammunition, which Ronald Kosh is legally prohibited from possessing
Authorities say the discovery confirmed suspicions that the father was actively contributing to the trafficking network.
