52-year-old Driver Crashes into Great Falls Home During Police Pursuit, Killing Woman

Great Falls, MT – A deadly crash in Lewis & Clark County on Saturday, November 22, 2025, claimed the life of a woman after a fleeing DUI suspect drove into a home, authorities reported. The incident unfolded late in the evening when Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) troopers attempted to pull over a vehicle suspected of impaired driving.

DUI Stop Turns Into High-Risk Pursuit

According to the MHP, troopers initiated a traffic stop just after 11 p.m. on a vehicle for a possible DUI violation. Initially, the vehicle stopped and a passenger exited, but the driver, identified as a 52-year-old man, sped away southbound on Lake Helena Drive, prompting a police pursuit.

The chase quickly escalated as the suspect approached the intersection of Lake Helena Drive and East Old Highway 12, where he failed to navigate the turn. The vehicle drove straight through the T-intersection, crashing through a fence and into a residential home.

Crash Impacts Homeowners

Inside the home, the car struck two people in a bedroom: a 69-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man. Tragically, the woman suffered fatal injuries, while the man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The suspect was also taken to a hospital with injuries, although authorities have not disclosed their severity.

The identities of the victims and the suspect have not been released pending family notifications and ongoing investigations.

Law Enforcement Response

The Lewis & Clark County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the MHP in investigating the crash. According to MHP, decisions to engage in vehicle pursuits are “among the most critical decisions made by troopers,” emphasizing that officer discretion is exercised to ensure the safety of the public and the traveling community.

Once the investigation concludes, the case will be submitted to the County Attorney’s office for potential charges against the suspect.

Community Impact

Incidents like this underscore the dangers of impaired driving and fleeing law enforcement. Residents are reminded of the severe consequences of DUI offenses and the risks posed to innocent bystanders. “The safety of Montanans is always the top priority for troopers when engaging in a pursuit,” the MHP noted.

Neighbors expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy. “It’s heartbreaking to know that someone’s reckless actions caused such a devastating loss in our community,” one local commented as per KRTV.

Moving Forward

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the suspect’s actions leading up to the collision. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and charges are determined.
