Kendall, FL — A Kendall homeowner turned a frightening home-invasion attempt into a deadly standoff on Sunday around 7 p.m., when he opened fire on a group of intruders trying to force their way inside his family home. One suspect was shot dead, while the remaining three fled the scene and are still being sought by authorities.
According to reports, the homeowner spotted one stranger on the porch and three more lurking in the yard. What started as suspicious movement quickly escalated into a chaotic, life-or-death encounter.
Mother’s Scream Sparks Rapid Response
The homeowner told NBC 6 South Florida that everything unfolded when he heard his mother’s terrified voice from another room.
“I heard my mom scream, ‘Get off my porch, I’m going to call 911,’” he said. “So I became frantic and I started looking for my gun.”
Once armed, he stepped outside hoping to scare the group away — but the intruders refused to back off and instead attempted to force their way inside the home, escalating the situation to a breaking point.
Gunfire Erupts as Intruders Rush the Door
As the men continued pressing toward the entrance, the homeowner fired multiple shots, striking one intruder twice. Home security footage later confirmed the eruption of gunfire and panicked screams as the suspects scattered in different directions.
“I wasn’t trying to kill him,” the homeowner explained. “But when he barged in, I was scared for my life — and for my mom.”
The shot suspect, later found wounded in the torso, was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Three Suspects Still on the Run

While one intruder was fatally shot, the other three men fled the scene and remain on the loose. Local authorities are continuing their investigation, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing the shaken family.
The homeowner told reporters he had no regrets about protecting his family, but the emotional weight of the moment remains heavy.
“I wish it was all a bad dream. Like this is a nightmare,” he said. “I’m going to need years and years of therapy. Worst night of my life. I wish it never happened.”
Self-Defense Under Florida Law
Florida’s Stand Your Ground and home-defense laws typically grant homeowners broad legal protection when confronted with unlawful, forced entry — though officials have not yet made a formal statement regarding charges or classification.
Investigators are expected to release updates once the identities of the suspects are confirmed and the full timeline of events is established.
Neighborhood on Edge After Violent Intrusion
Residents in the Kendall community say the attempted break-in has left families on high alert. Many expressed gratitude that the homeowner and his mother survived, while also voicing concern over the remaining suspects still at large.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of how quickly a home invasion can escalate — and how a single moment can change the course of someone’s life.
