San Bernardino, CA — A late-night high-speed pursuit across the 210 Freeway ended in tragedy after a fleeing vehicle rolled over and ejected four occupants, leaving one person dead and three others hospitalized, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident began around 11:48 p.m. on November 22, when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Arden Avenue and the westbound 210 Freeway for what officials described as a “moving violation.” The driver refused to comply, triggering a dangerous chase across nearly 48 miles of freeway.
Driver Hits Speeds Over 130 mph
Deputies reported that the suspect vehicle reached speeds in excess of 130 mph, weaving in and out of traffic as the driver attempted to evade law enforcement. The intense pursuit spanned multiple stretches of the 210 Freeway, creating hazardous conditions for both the occupants and surrounding drivers.
Witnesses described seeing patrol units trailing the vehicle at high speed, with lights and sirens cutting through the night as the chase pushed deeper into San Bernardino.
Crash on 210 Freeway Offramp Ejects All Occupants
The chase came to a violent end on the eastbound 210 Freeway offramp leading to North State Street, where the driver lost control. The vehicle overturned, causing all four occupants—identified as an adult male driver, an adult female passenger, and two male juveniles—to be ejected.
First responders arrived to find a chaotic scene with debris scattered across the offramp and severely injured victims lying on the roadway. Emergency personnel rushed three of the occupants to local hospitals for treatment, as per the reports.
Tragically, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the deceased was one of the adults or one of the juveniles.
Investigation Underway by Sheriff’s Detectives
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department’s Central Station have taken over the investigation, working to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal crash. This includes reviewing dash-cam footage, roadway evidence, and statements from deputies involved in the pursuit.
Officials have also not released details about whether impairment, reckless driving, or mechanical failure played any role in the vehicle losing control.
As the investigation continues, the identities and ages of the victims remain undisclosed. The Sheriff’s Department is expected to release updates as next-of-kin notifications are completed and more information becomes available.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the pursuit or captured video of the crash to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
