Ogden, Utah — A 56-year-old Ogden man is facing multiple charges after police say a road rage confrontation escalated into a physical assault involving a pregnant woman — and unfolded in front of three children.
Road Rage Encounter Turns Violent, Police Say
According to newly filed court documents, the incident began when Larry Daley, 56, allegedly cut in front of the victim while driving on Thursday. The woman reportedly shouted at Daley in response, prompting him to follow her into a residential neighborhood.
Investigators say Daley trailed the woman until she parked, where things quickly intensified.
Victim Pushed Into Her Vehicle, Witnesses Tell Officers
Police allege Daley exited his car, approached the victim’s open driver-side door, and pushed the pregnant woman down into her seat. Officers stated Daley was aware that the victim was pregnant at the time.
Inside the vehicle, an adult passenger and three children witnessed the assault firsthand. Their accounts aligned with the victim’s version of events. A short cellphone video recorded at the scene also showed Daley walking away immediately afterward.
Authorities confirmed Daley knew the victim but did not specify the nature of their relationship.
Suspect Admits to Confrontation but Denies Assault
When officers interviewed Daley, he admitted that an altercation occurred but denied pushing the woman. However, police said he later apologized and acknowledged that he should not have followed her after the driving dispute.
Based on witness statements and recorded evidence, officers placed him under arrest.
Formal Charges Filed Against Larry Daley
Daley now faces multiple charges, including:
- Assault of a Pregnant Person (Felony)
- Three counts of Violent Offense Committed in the Presence of a Child
The presence of minors during the offense elevates the severity of the charges under Utah law.
Police have not reported any significant injuries to the woman or her unborn child, though the investigation remains active.
Community Concern as Road Rage Incidents Increase
Law enforcement officials across the country have seen an uptick in road rage cases. While many remain verbal disputes, incidents involving physical confrontations — particularly toward vulnerable individuals — are generating increasing concern.
The Ogden Police Department urged drivers to avoid engaging in heated confrontations and instead call authorities when they feel threatened.
What Comes Next in the Legal Process
Daley is expected to appear in court soon as prosecutors move forward with the case. Potential witness statements — including testimony from the adult passenger, the three children, and those who recorded video — will likely play a significant role in upcoming proceedings.
Additional details may be released as the investigation progresses.
