Fatal Head-On Crash Claims Life of Dublin Teen, Injures 4 Others involving 2 Minors

Union County, OH — A 17-year-old girl from Dublin was tragically killed Sunday evening in a two-vehicle crash that left four others injured, including two juveniles, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

Teen Driver Crosses Center Line, Collides With SUV

Authorities say Claudia Phan, 17, was heading northbound on Hyland Croy Road around 7:30 p.m. when her Kia Forte drifted across the center line and slammed into a Ford Explorer traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact was severe. Phan died at the scene, OSHP confirmed to the 10TV.

The driver of the Ford, whose identity has not yet been released, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Riverside Methodist Hospital. His front-seat passenger, a woman, sustained minor injuries.

In the backseat were two juveniles, both of whom were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with minor injuries, troopers said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and OSHP has not shared whether speed, distraction, or other factors played a role.

Community Mourns Loss of Dublin Jerome High School Senior

On Monday, Dublin City Schools confirmed that Phan was a senior at Dublin Jerome High School, a fact that has sent shockwaves through the school community.

In a message sent to families, Principal Mike Aurin said the school was devastated by the news and working quickly to support grieving students and staff.

To provide immediate care, mental health specialists and the district’s crisis response team were stationed at the high school throughout the day.

Superintendent John Marschhausen also shared a message emphasizing compassion during tragedy:

During difficult moments like this, our strength comes from the way we care for and support one another. Please keep this student’s family, friends, and teachers in your thoughts.”

Support for Students and Staff Intensifies

District Officials said staff members were reaching out directly to students who shared classes or activities with Phan, ensuring they received the news in the most sensitive and supportive way possible.

The district encouraged parents to check in with their children, noting that emotional reactions may surface over time — especially when the victim is a peer.

Counselors will continue to be available at the school as needed.

Investigation Still Active

OSHP is continuing its investigation into what caused Phan to cross the center line.
Officials have not released any additional details about the road conditions, potential contributing factors, or whether further findings are expected in the coming days.

This tragedy has touched families, students, and neighbors across the region. Share your condolences, reactions, or memories in the comments below.
