Big Springs Search Warrant Nets Drugs, Firearm and 2 Arrests; School Put on Lockdown during SWAT Raid

North Platte, NB — A quiet Friday morning in Big Springs took a sharp turn when law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a residence on 604 Chestnut St. just after 9 a.m.

According to the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office, the operation was carried out with the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT Team, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.

Two Suspects Taken Into Custody

Authorities confirmed that Darrell Hyberg III, 26, and Taylor Grafford, 38, were detained without incident during the search.

Both individuals now face several felony and misdemeanor charges, including:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Obstructing Law Enforcement

Officials have not yet released additional details about potential quantities of drugs or weapons seized during the operation, as per the reports.

Nearby School Placed on Brief Lockdown

During the execution of the search warrant, South Platte School was notified as a precautionary measure and placed under lockdown. No students or staff were ever believed to be in danger.

The lockdown was lifted once the scene was declared secure and law enforcement completed their search.

Community Reaction

Local residents expressed a mix of concern and relief, noting that while drug-related arrests have occurred in the region before, a school lockdown is extremely rare. Many praised the swift communication between law enforcement and the school district.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities say the investigation remains active, though no further suspects are currently being sought. More information may be released as the case progresses.
