York County, PA – State Police in York County are actively searching for a man accused of leading a dangerous high-speed vehicle pursuit through Chanceford Township last month.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Shane Michael Suenderhaft of Brogue, is a habitual offender with multiple outstanding arrest warrants related to DUI convictions and driving while under a suspended license.
Pursuit Begins
According to police reports, troopers on patrol in the area of Delta Road in southern York County spotted Suenderhaft’s BMW 325 outside a Rutter’s store shortly before 9 a.m. on October 17. Running the vehicle’s registration revealed several outstanding arrest warrants, prompting officers to take action.
When Suenderhaft exited the store and entered his vehicle, the troopers followed him north on Delta Road. Police noted that the vehicle appeared to be missing inspection and emissions stickers, raising further concerns about vehicle safety compliance.
High-Speed Evasion
Officers activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the vehicle over after Suenderhaft turned onto Gum Tree Road, but he allegedly accelerated to escape, reaching speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, as per Fox43.
During the chase, Suenderhaft’s vehicle reportedly swerved in and out of lanes, at one point entering the opposing lane and forcing another car off the road in order to avoid a collision. The pursuit was called off by police when they lost sight of the BMW near Gum Tree Road and Collinsville Road, though the search for Suenderhaft continues.
Charges and Legal Status
Suenderhaft faces multiple charges stemming from the alleged October 17 chase, including:
- Felony counts: Fleeing or attempting to elude police, flight to avoid apprehension
- Misdemeanor counts: Illegally operating a vehicle not equipped with an ignition lock, driving under a suspended license, recklessly endangering another person, being a habitual offender
- 10 summary traffic offenses
Police emphasized that Suenderhaft currently has eight outstanding warrants for DUI and driving under a suspended license, reflecting a history of repeated dangerous behavior on the road.

Authorities warned that the suspect’s alleged actions during the chase posed a serious risk to public safety, noting that high-speed pursuits through residential and rural areas can have devastating consequences for motorists, pedestrians, and first responders.
State Police are urging anyone who sees Suenderhaft or his vehicle to contact local authorities immediately and not approach the suspect. Residents are reminded to exercise caution and remain aware of vehicular safety concerns in the area.
