Winston-Salem, NC– A high-speed police chase through downtown Winston-Salem ended with a crash Wednesday night, leaving officers searching for the wanted suspect, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Chase Begins After Attempted Stop
The pursuit began around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday near Fourteenth and Liberty Streets when officers attempted to pull over a wanted man. Police said the suspect rammed his vehicle into a patrol car, prompting a high-speed chase through city streets.
As the vehicle entered the downtown Winston-Salem area, officers temporarily canceled the pursuit to ensure public safety. Shortly afterward, the suspect collided with a civilian vehicle on First Street, but no injuries were reported.
Pursuit Resumes Toward Kernersville
Officers said the chase resumed when the vehicle was spotted traveling the wrong direction on U.S. 421 toward Kernersville. The pursuit ended when the suspect’s car crashed into a wooded area near the Fifth Street exit.
Authorities deployed a drone to assist in locating the suspect, but he remains at large. A passenger in the suspect’s vehicle has been detained for questioning, according to the reports.
No Injuries Reported
Despite the multiple collisions and high-speed maneuvers, no injuries were reported among officers, civilians, or the passenger.
The Winston-Salem Police Department continues to actively search for the suspect and urged anyone with information to contact authorities.
