Los Angeles, CA — After enjoying a stretch of warm and sunny weather through the weekend, Southern California is preparing for a change in conditions as a series of storms are forecasted to move through the region late next week.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the incoming systems could bring moderate rain and cooler temperatures to areas across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
“We start you out a little cooler this morning (Thursday), grab a sweater, but keep in mind you won’t need it by afternoon,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.
He noted that while temperatures began on the cooler side, afternoon highs will climb back to seasonal averages by the end of the day.
Forecast Outlook: Rain Chances Build by Midweek
The NWS indicated that one or two storm systems may move through Southern California during the second half of next week, potentially delivering measurable rainfall across the region.
“Our earliest shot is Wednesday evening, but even then it’ll be on the very light side,” said Henry DiCarlo. “Thursday and Friday, we get a better chance of rain.”
Current forecasts suggest the storms could bring between one and three inches of rain to parts of Southern California, though meteorologists caution that rainfall totals remain uncertain. The NWS also acknowledged a small possibility that some areas may see little to no rain depending on how the storm tracks inland.
Warming Trend Through the Weekend
Before the rain arrives, residents can expect pleasantly warm and dry conditions over the weekend. The NWS attributes this to building high pressure over the region, which will push temperatures above seasonal averages.
“But before we get there, let’s focus on the weekend … a warm weekend,” DiCarlo said.
By Saturday and Sunday, many areas are expected to see daytime highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, particularly across Los Angeles County and coastal communities. Inland valleys could reach the mid-80s, while desert areas will see even warmer temperatures.
These dry, comfortable conditions will hold through early next week, offering a brief window for outdoor activities before the next weather system moves in.
Moderate Rain Could Ease Dry Conditions
While the potential rainfall isn’t expected to be heavy enough to cause flooding, meteorologists say it could provide much-needed relief to the region’s dry landscapes following several weeks of above-average warmth.
The National Weather Service is advising residents to monitor local forecasts and be prepared for changing weather conditions starting midweek. Drivers are urged to use caution during the first rainfall, as oil buildup on roads can make surfaces slippery.
For now, Southern Californians can enjoy a warm, sunny weekend before the pattern shifts toward cooler, wetter weather.
