Teen Fatally Shot in Brooklyn Street Attack; Gunman Remains at Large, Police Say

Brooklyn, New York – A 16-year-old boy was tragically shot and killed on a Brooklyn sidewalk Saturday night, and the suspect remains on the loose, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).

Teen Killed in Deadly Brooklyn Shooting

Authorities said officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting near Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights around 8:47 p.m. Upon arrival, police discovered the teen victim lying unresponsive on the pavement. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police identified the victim as Tyson Harps, a 16-year-old resident of The Bronx, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Family Devastated by Sudden Loss

Heartbroken relatives spent Sunday morning identifying the teenager’s body at the morgue. His mother, overwhelmed with grief, struggled to cope with the loss of her son, family members said.

“She’s not taking it easy,” said Amarah, Tyson’s older cousin, during an interview with The New York Post. “He was a cool cousin,” she added, describing Tyson as a good-natured and kind teen who loved spending time with his friends.

The family described the killing as unexpected and senseless. “It came out of nowhere,” Amarah said. “He’s a good kid. All I know is he was with his friends.”

Investigation Ongoing

Police said the shooter fled the scene before officers arrived. Detectives are now reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings and interviewing witnesses in hopes of identifying the suspect.

As of Sunday, no arrests had been made, and the investigation remains active. Law enforcement officials have not yet released information on a potential motive or whether the attack may have been targeted.

The NYPD Crime Scene Unit worked late into the night collecting evidence, while officers canvassed the neighborhood asking for anyone who might have seen or heard the shooting to come forward.

Call for Information

Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting of Tyson Harps to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip anonymously online.

Authorities hope that community assistance could help bring the gunman to justice and provide closure to the grieving family.

A Mother’s Heartbreak

For now, Tyson’s family is left mourning a young life cut short. Relatives said the teen had dreams of finishing high school and making his mother proud. “He had his whole life ahead of him,” said Amarah. “Now, we just want justice.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has relevant footage is urged to come forward immediately.
