Two Arrested after Major Drug Raids in Hoover and Birmingham Seize Pounds of Flakka and Meth

Hoover, AL – Two large-scale drug raids carried out by the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Narcotics Agents on October 29, 2025, led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of multiple pounds of Flakka, crystal methamphetamine, and marijuana, along with the discovery of an active drug manufacturing lab.

Major Drug Bust in Hoover

The first operation unfolded around 7:30 a.m. at 1661 Patton Chapel Road, Apartment A, in Hoover, where agents executed both an arrest warrant and a residential search warrant targeting Crystal Smith.

During the search, authorities uncovered:

  • Approximately 4 pounds of Flakka
  • Around 400 grams of crystal methamphetamine
  • A Flakka manufacturing lab
  • About 200 grams of marijuana
  • Various drug paraphernalia and contraband-related items

Following her arrest, Smith was transported to the Jefferson County (Bessemer) Jail. She now faces multiple felony charges, including:

  • Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance (1st Degree)
  • Three counts of Drug Trafficking
  • Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (1st Degree)

Second Operation in Birmingham

Later that same day, at approximately 8:00 p.m., ADOC agents executed another arrest warrant at 3709 Hickory Drive in Birmingham, this time targeting Lachelle Nix.

Following a post-Miranda interview, investigators conducted a search of Nix’s residence, uncovering:

  • Roughly 4 pounds of Flakka
  • 2 pounds of crystal methamphetamine
  • 344 grams of marijuana

Nix was also booked into the Jefferson County (Bessemer) Jail, facing the following charges:

  • Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (1st Degree)
  • Two counts of Drug Trafficking
  • Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

ADOC Agents Intensify Crackdown on Synthetic Drugs

Authorities emphasized that these coordinated raids demonstrate the ongoing commitment of the ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division to disrupting the production and distribution of synthetic narcotics in Jefferson County and surrounding areas.

The operations also highlight the growing threat of Flakka, a dangerous synthetic stimulant that has been linked to severe psychotic episodes, violent behavior, and multiple overdose deaths across the United States.

Public Safety and Community Cooperation

“Each successful operation represents one step closer to safer communities and fewer lives destroyed by dangerous drugs,” an ADOC spokesperson stated, according to the reports.

Law enforcement officials are urging residents to report any suspicious activity related to drug manufacturing or trafficking to local police departments or Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama.
