Deadly Overnight Crash in Highland Township Leaves 53-year-old Woman Dead]

Highland Township, MI — A 53-year-old woman from Highland Township lost her life early Friday morning following a rollover crash in Oakland County, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Deadly Crash on Harvey Lake Road

Deputies responded to the accident around 12:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Harvey Lake Road in Highland Township. Authorities said Lisa Dawn LaPearl, 53, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox southbound when her vehicle crossed the center line and veered off the road.

The SUV then plunged into a ditch, struck a culvert, and went airborne before overturning. When first responders arrived, they found the Chevrolet Equinox lying on its passenger side in a nearby driveway.

Driver Trapped Inside the SUV

Deputies reported that LaPearl was trapped inside the vehicle when they reached the scene. Her 30-year-old son, who was a passenger, managed to escape the wreckage and was seen walking nearby, reportedly searching for the family dog that had been in the SUV during the crash.

Members of the Highland Township Fire Department arrived shortly afterward and worked to extricate LaPearl from the damaged vehicle. However, during the rescue attempt, she became unresponsive, deputies said.

Rescue Efforts Unsuccessful

Despite immediate efforts from paramedics and first responders to revive her, Lisa LaPearl was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that she suffered fatal injuries as a result of the rollover.

Her 30-year-old son did not report any life-threatening injuries and declined transport to the hospital. The family dog’s condition was not immediately known.

Investigation Underway

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, as reported by CBS News. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation to determine what caused LaPearl to lose control of the vehicle.

Preliminary reports have not indicated whether speed, alcohol, or road conditions were factors in the crash. Deputies are expected to release more information once the investigation concludes.

The Highland Township community is mourning the sudden loss of Lisa Dawn LaPearl, who was known locally as a kind and caring neighbor. Residents have expressed condolences and support for her family following the tragic event.

Local authorities are reminding drivers to stay alert and cautious, especially when driving late at night or in poorly lit areas, to prevent similar tragedies.
