San Antonio Named Among America’s Best Cities for Halloween Fun

San Antonio, TX — With less than a day before the spookiest night of the year, a new report has revealed where Americans can enjoy the most festive and frightful Halloween celebrations. According to a new WalletHub study, San Antonio ranks as one of the top cities in the United States for Halloween excitement — coming in strong among several Texas contenders.

Halloween by the Numbers

The WalletHub report, released on October 27, compared 100 of the largest U.S. cities across three major categories: “Trick-or-Treater-Friendliness,” “Halloween Fun,” and “Halloween Weather.”

Each of these dimensions was broken down into 20 individual metrics, including:

  • Costume stores per capita (5.22)
  • Crime rate (11.43)
  • Share of potential trick-or-treat stops (2.86)

Researchers combined these data points to determine which cities offer the most enjoyable, safest, and most vibrant Halloween experiences in America.

According to MySA, San Antonio earned an overall score of 43.9 out of 100, ranking it as the 11th-best Texas city to celebrate the holiday and narrowly missing the national top 10 (just behind Houston).

“Halloween holds a big place in American popular culture, and we collectively spend billions of dollars celebrating every year,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said.

“The best cities for Halloween are those that provide the safest conditions for celebrating, along with an abundance of activities.”

Where to Find the Halloween Spirit in San Antonio

From free haunted houses to the Fright Fest at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Antonio offers countless ways to celebrate Halloween night. Local neighborhoods are going all-out this year with creative and spooky displays.

Some of the best-decorated zip codes for trick-or-treaters include:

  • Fair Oaks Ranch (78015)
  • King William Historic District (78204)
  • Wayside Cemetery area (78213)

Residents in these neighborhoods have long been known for their over-the-top yard setups, interactive decorations, and generous candy selections.

Texas Takes Over the Halloween Rankings

Texas cities dominated the WalletHub list, with more than 25 towns appearing among the top 100 U.S. destinations for Halloween fun.

Statewide results showed:

  • Laredo took the No. 1 spot in Texas and ranked among the top 10 cities nationwide, earning an impressive score of 52.16.
  • Irving landed in second place, followed by El Paso (No. 3), Arlington (No. 4), and Garland (No. 5).
  • Corpus Christi and Austin ranked lower among Texas cities this year, but both remain popular regional destinations for family-friendly events.

Top Cities Nationwide

For those planning a Halloween getaway, New York City was crowned the best city in America for Halloween celebrations, followed by Jersey City, New Jersey, and Los Angeles, California.

Whether you’re staying local or taking a spooky trip, San Antonio’s combination of great weather, family fun, and community enthusiasm makes it one of the most festive places in the nation to enjoy Halloween.
