Suspect Arrested after Firing at Chicago Police During Pursuit; No Injuries Reported

Chicago, IL — A dangerous police pursuit through Chicago’s North Side ended with the arrest of a suspect who police say fired a gunshot at officers during the chase. The incident spanned multiple neighborhoods on Monday afternoon, putting residents on alert as police tracked the fleeing driver both on the road and on foot.

Traffic Stop Escalates Into Vehicle Attack

According to the Chicago Police Department, the confrontation began at approximately 4:10 p.m. when an officer attempted a traffic stop in the 4800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Jefferson Park. Police say the driver of a Jeep not only refused to comply but rammed the officer’s marked squad car and immediately sped away from the area.

During the encounter, the suspect allegedly fired at least one shot, striking the officer’s squad vehicle. Authorities confirmed that no officers were hit, and officers did not return fire at the fleeing suspect.

The incident quickly escalated into a high-risk vehicle chase through residential and commercial streets as police continued attempting to stop the suspect.

Second Collision in Portage Park as Pursuit Continues

The high-speed pursuit moved south into the Portage Park neighborhood, where the suspect crashed into a second Chicago Police squad car near the 4500 block of North Meade Avenue. Despite the collision, the driver reportedly abandoned the Jeep and ran away on foot in an attempt to escape arrest.

Residents in the area witnessed a large police presence as officers established a perimeter and searched for the suspect.

Suspect Captured; Gun Recovered From Jeep

Officers located and apprehended the suspect only minutes later in the 6100 block of West Eastwood Avenue, still within the neighborhood, CBS News reported.

Police confirmed that a firearm was found inside the Jeep, which investigators believe was the same weapon used to fire at officers during the initial confrontation.

Fortunately, police say no civilians and no officers were injured during the chase or the collisions — a rare outcome in such volatile circumstances.

Charges Pending as Investigation Expands

The identity of the suspect has not yet been released. Chicago police indicated that charges are pending and will likely include multiple felony offenses, given the escalating actions: firing at officers, property damage, reckless fleeing, and assault on law enforcement personnel.

The investigation is being handled by Area Five detectives, who are reviewing evidence from each scene, including bullet trajectory, damage to vehicles, and witness statements.

More details will be made public once the suspect is formally charged.

Neighborhoods on Alert as Police Respond Quickly

The chase — covering several blocks across densely populated areas — raised concerns about the threat to public safety. Police emphasized that the rapid arrest prevented the situation from becoming far more dangerous.

City officials have continued urging residents to call 911 immediately if they witness violent or reckless behavior on the streets.

Community members praised officers for stopping the incident without further harm despite the suspect’s willingness to use violence against police.
