Golden Gate, FL – A 20-year-old Golden Gate man, Raul Medina, was arrested Wednesday night following a high-speed chase during which he crashed into four vehicles, sending a pregnant woman to the hospital, authorities said.
Details of the Chase
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported that the incident began around 8 p.m. on Immokalee Road near Wilson Boulevard, where Medina was allegedly driving over 100 mph. Deputies attempted to pull him over, but he turned off his vehicle’s lights and fled, leading them to temporarily break off the pursuit for safety reasons.
Minutes later, Medina was spotted near Collier Boulevard and Golden Gate Boulevard, reportedly continuing to drive at dangerous speeds. Deputies attempted another traffic stop, but Medina tried to evade them again. During the pursuit, he lost control and crashed into a vehicle, coming to a stop near Golden Gate Parkway and Tropicana Boulevard.
Victims and Injuries
The crash injured one of the victims, a pregnant woman, who was taken to the hospital for treatment. In addition, Medina allegedly struck three other vehicles during the chase.
Criminal History and Charges
According to the reports, Medina has a prior record, including an arrest in May for street racing and eight traffic citations since 2022.
He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Fleeing law enforcement while causing injury
- Reckless driving causing damage
- Operating a vehicle over 100 mph
- Three counts of leaving the scene of a crash
Authorities emphasized the dangerous and reckless nature of Medina’s actions, which put multiple lives at risk during the high-speed chase.
