Seguin, TX — A 63-year-old man from Seguin was killed early Wednesday morning after a box truck plunged off Interstate 10 and landed on top of his sedan, according to local authorities.
The Seguin Police Department said the deadly crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 123 Bypass and Interstate 10, prompting an emergency response from officers, firefighters, and medics.
Truck Fell Off Overpass, Crushing Sedan Below
Investigators determined that a white Hino box truck traveling westbound on I-10 veered off the roadway and fell onto the northbound lanes of State Highway 123 Bypass. The truck struck a grey sedan before landing directly on top of a red sedan, trapping the driver inside.
Police identified the victim as Anthony Stephenson, 63, of Seguin. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This was a tragic and complex scene,” a police spokesperson said in a news release. “Our hearts are with the victim’s family as the investigation continues.”
According to Express-News, both the box truck driver and the driver of the grey sedan were transported to a nearby hospital. Their conditions have not yet been released.
Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation
Police temporarily closed the intersection of State Highway 123 and I-10 to allow investigators to reconstruct the crash and clear the wreckage. The closure caused heavy traffic delays through the early morning hours as crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles.
“The scene required significant coordination between police, fire, and medical responders,” officials said. “We appreciate the public’s patience while we ensured safety and conducted a thorough investigation.”
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the truck to leave the interstate, though weather, speed, and mechanical failure are all being considered.
Community Shock and Safety Reminder
Residents of Seguin expressed shock at the unusual and devastating accident, which left one man dead and two others injured. Local drivers say the busy intersection near the I-10 bypass is known for frequent congestion and heavy commercial traffic.
Safety officials are reminding motorists to slow down, remain alert, and watch for large vehicles near highway interchanges, especially during early morning commutes.
“Accidents like this serve as a reminder that even routine drives can turn dangerous in a moment,” police said.
The Seguin Police Department continues to investigate the crash and will release additional details as they become available.
